Earlier today, my friend, neighbor, and mayor, John Noak, posted a link to a story about a young man in our town who has been dealing with some major health issues since he was born, leaving his family with a heap of medical bills. The community is hosting a 5K run to raise money to help offset some of those expenses. But the best part is, this 5K has a superhero theme. Attendees are encouraged to dress as their favorite superheroes or villains.
My thoughts went immediately to Superbear. He would be the perfect bear to run this 5K with me, and afterward, he could go home with Manny. I emailed Manny's mom, and she quickly agreed to the idea.
I've done 5K (and longer) runs before. It's been awhile, but I figured, hey, a 5K is, what, two miles or something? Nope. It's more than three. But the event isn't until May. I have some time to prepare, right? Nope. May is next week. The event is next week.
Guess I'd better get cracking.
